The Choice of Size For the Right Rugs
The total area covered by the carpets must be about two-thirds of the space. The size of the single piece must be proportionate to the area in which it is placed, for example, if we have to put the carpet under the table, we must ensure that, wherever possible, even the chairs are completely on it.
If instead, we wanted to put the rug in front of the sofa area, how should we behave? Do we make the sofas rise up completely or do we place the front feet, or do we leave the carpet free only in the area in front? You would not fossilize on one solution or the other but instead would take the proportions with respect to the size of the sofas and the room. Now you can buy rugs for less and more.
The Choice of Style
In most cases, the carpet is placed in an environment that already has its own imprint, and the choice takes place accordingly, but sometimes extraordinary results are obtained by playing on contrasts, for example in a rigorous and austere environment of high antiques with furniture.
There are also classic rugs with traditional motifs played in a new way that manages to be clear, fresh and airy that combines with traditional settings. For example, Agra or Peshawar rugs have pastel colours, hand-spun wools and vegetable dyes.
For a country house or a mountain chalet, if you don’t want to bear the cost of an antique carpet, you can opt for an Old Persian carpet with low costs or a very colourful. For a professional study, it is advisable to use an ancient carpet that qualifies us as professional experts, in fact, the choice of style, if you are disconnected from a pre-existing furnishing situation, gives us the opportunity to talk about ourselves, to make our guests understand our background cultural.
The Choice of Colors
The Persian carpet, both modern and antique, is always dominated by colour even if it is plain, light beige, ecru, dove grey or rope dyed, the colour is always the master; by virtue of the manual knotting of wool or silk every single knot reflects shades different from the next knot, so each rug is chromatically different from the other, it is unique.
The Choice of Materials
The carpets are generally knotted in wool on a weft and warp in cotton; sometimes in nomad carpets, the structure is in wool and in city rugs the fleece in silk or mixed wool and silk. To knot a rug by hand, it takes months of work, so it is advisable to use valuable materials to prevent so much effort from ending up in nothing. Contemporary rugs are played with fleece materials such as hemp silk wool and treated cotton in order to create relief effects or soft tone-on-tone contrasts given by the difference in materials.
The maintenance
The carpet does not require particular care if the knotting is of the Persian type, it will be resistant to trampling and, it can also be placed in the entrance or areas of heavy traffic, a little more respect we will have for the antique pieces.
