Law of Ghana
Ghana changed its identity law in 2000, to the 2000 Ghana Citizen Act Dual Citizenship Scheme, which became effective from Friday, 1 November 2002, as per the arrangements of the Citizenship Act 2002. Applicants qualified for dual citizenship are the individuals who hold citizenship of any country in addition to the citizenship of Ghana. In these occurrences, all candidates are legally necessary to give proof of their Ghanaian ethnicity or their nation of birth. Its goal was to build a movement of talented labour, yet the law has been criticized for not giving full residents rights as locally born residents.
Adoption
An offspring of not over 16 years old neither of whose guardians is a resident of Ghana who is received by a resident of Ghana will, by the goodness of the appropriation, be a resident of Ghana.
Citizenship by birth in or outside Ghana and by respectable
People brought into the world before 6/3/57
(1) An individual brought into the world before 6 March 1957 is a resident of Ghana by birth if—
(a) He/She was brought into the world in Ghana and at any rate, one of his/her folks or grandparents was brought into the world in Ghana; or
(b) He/She was born in outer Ghana and one of his/her folks was brought into the world in Ghana.
People brought into the world on or after 6/3/57 yet before 22/8/69
(1) An individual brought into the world on or after 6 March 1957 and before 22 August 1969 is a resident of Ghana by birth if—
- He/She was brought into the world in or outside Ghana and both of his/her folks, and furthermore, one at any rate of his/her grandparents or incredible grandparents, was brought into the world in Ghana; or
- For the situation of an individual brought into the world in Ghana neither of whose guardians was brought into the world in Ghana, at any rate, one of his/her grandparents was brought into the world in Ghana.
(2) An individual isn’t a resident of Ghana for the reasons for subsection (1) of this segment if, at the hour of his/her introduction to the world the parent, grandparent, or extraordinary grandparent through whom the citizenship is guaranteed has lost his/her citizenship of Ghana.
(3) An individual brought into the world on or after 6 March 1957 and before 22 August 1969 is a resident of Ghana by birth if—
- He/She was brought into the world in Ghana and at the hour of his/her introduction to the world, both of his/her folks was a resident of Ghana by enrollment or naturalization; or
- He/She was brought into the world external Ghana and at the hour of his/her introduction to the world, both of his/her folks were residents of Ghana by enlistment or naturalization.
People brought into the world on or after 22/8/69—Constitution 1969
An individual is a resident of Ghana by birth on the off chance that he/she was brought into the world in or outside Ghana on or after 22 August 1969 and before 24 September 1979 and at the date of his introduction to the world both of his/her folks was a resident of Ghana.
